New WiMER 2 for Fowler Instruments

Even though WiMER Series 1 works with almost all Mitutoyo digimatic instruments and Mitutoyo has a pretty complete product line, we are still working on making WiMER compatible with more instruments from other major manufacturers. Now WiMER Series 2 for Fowler/Sylvac instruments is out!


WiMER Series 2 is the WiMER designed for Fowler/Sylvac users. It collects readings from Fowler/Sylvac instruments with RS232 outputs and transmits data wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy to iPhone/iPad. WiMER 2 is also able to power the instrument connected to it if needed.

WiMER 2 has the same parameter with WiMER 1. All the hardware options like 5/10 Hz sampling rate, angle measurement, trigger button are all available with WiMER 2. At the same time, WiMER 2 is also compatible with all the iOS apps developed for WiMER 1.

Introducing WiClamp and BlueClamp App (iPad)

Our wireless current measurement kit is a solution for power monitoring. It consists of an AC current transducer and the WiClamp base. It is able to measure the TRUE RMS value of current in a cable and transmit measurement results wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy. With the support of BlueClamp App, the kit turns your iPad into a current monitoring device.

The clamp-shaped AC current transducer can stand Working Voltage up to 600 V CAT II. The range selection switch on the transducer provides two options of measurement range, 1-115 A RMS and 1-400 A RMS. The corresponding resolutions for two ranges are 0.3 A and 3 A respectively.

The WiClamp base is a small box with dimension of 60 x 36 x 15 mm. It wirelessly transmits one current RMS value approximately every one second. The Bluetooth working range is about 10 m. The WiClamp base has built-in rechargeable li-po battery.

On the software side, we have developed the BlueClamp App for WiClamp. This app is free on the App Store.


The BlueClamp App can connect up to 3 WiClamps, that means you can monitor 3 power lines at the same time. On the measurement page, user has individual control of adding and removing all 3 WiClamps separately. In the upper portion of the page, measurement results are presented in a data table. Max, Min, Average values are automatically calculated for easy reference. In the lower part, a real-time graph of 3 sensors is available. While user is still able to hide or unhide one plot individually. All measurement results can be easily exported and shared via email with one button push.

We have also enabled a simulation mode for those who don’t have WiClamp while still want to know more about this App. The simulation mode has almost all the major features of actual measurement mode.

Here is our DialRead App for iPhone

We have developed a few iOS Apps for WiMER device. This post will show the features of one of them called DialRead.

DialRead App connects to WiMER and reads the readings from any micrometer, caliper, dial indicator or any other digital measurement instruments with SPC output. This system allows you to have a wireless bluetooth measurement device and read the values directly from your iPhone. Click the icon below to get it for free on the App Store.


Now let’s go through some screenshots of DialRead and get to know all the features it has.

– In the main menu, you can connect a device, start a new session, view recorded measurements, run demo and change settings


– There are various setup options available in Setting page, like sampling rate, unit, decimal accuracy, etc


– When you go to the measurement page and start a new session, you can add Machine ID through QR reader. You can also add machine image from device library or camera


– When a session starts, there will be a real-time plot displayed during data collection. In the continuous mode, the plot keeps updating continuously as data is transmitted by WiMER at a constant pace


– On the same page, you can choose to turn on analog dial and show more signal information


– If you are recording measurement in the single mode, you can tap read button on screen or pushing button on device to record reading at any moment you need to keep the reading


– You have access to a list of previous recordings in View Measurements page. There are options of viewing plots, generating report, synchronizing with Dropbox or emailing CSV file


– In viewing plots page, you can post-process waveform plot. Pinch/Pan/Zoom are enabled on this page


– We also include the feature of generating polar plot for testing result


– Finally is the PDF report generation session. You can include all testing information in this session


– Inserting machine image, TIR indicator, waveform and polar plot to report are also available


– In the end of the report, you can add signature and location information to report. The report is ready for printing or emailing


Introducing WiMER 1

Are you using a digital measurement instrument like dial, caliper or micrometer? Have you even been caught in the situation that you don’t have access to the instrument reading, say the dial is in a long pipe to measure the inner diameter? Are you tired of taking down all of the readings and doing complex analysis? Have you thought getting rid of the small display screen while the external display is expensive and bulky? Here is our solution for you, it’s our WiMER Series 1 device.

WiMER stands for wireless measurement read. It’s not a measurement instrument, but it connects to almost all of the Mitutoyo digital instruments. No matter it is a caliper or a micrometer or a dial indicator, as long as it is from Mitutoyo and it has SPC digimatic output, WiMER 1 is able to obtain the current reading and transmits the result wirelessly to your iPhone/iPad via Bluetooth Low Energy.

WiMER comes with the dimension of 60 x 45 x 25 mm. It has a 850 mAh rechargeable battery inside, which will allow for about 60 hours of usage time. WiMER has a micro USB connector at the bottom, used for both data input and charging. We have included a USB charging cable and an adaptor in the package, but since it is a standard micro USB port, you can basically use any normal USB charger like your phone charger to charge WiMER.

WiMER reads and sends measurement readings continuously at the rate of 5 or 10Hz. That means you will see 5 or 10 samples every one second. There is also one push button available on the top of WiMER. You can use it to trigger the recording of the single measurement value you want at any moment. This single recording function can also be achieved through a virtual button in the iOS Apps since sometimes it’s not a good idea to touch the instruments during the measurement once it is mounted on the fixture.

There is also one built-in angular sensor option with WiMER on request. Once angle measurement is enabled, you will see the tilt angle of WiMER. Imagining you are doing runout test, if you fix WiMER on a rotor, our App detects the rotating angle of WiMER, which is also the rotating angle of the rotor, and automatically records measurements at preset angular positions. Isn’t it cool?

Currently we have 4 Apps for WiMER, DialRead and DialFace on iPhone, DialReadPad and DialReadRotary on iPad. They can communicate with WiMER, record the reading and display with real-time plot. There are many other features like analog health indicator, PDF report generation, database saving, etc. We’ll get to more details in other future posts.

WiMER can be used for outer or inner diameter measurement, just as shown in the following pictures. It can also be applied to runout test, surface profile measurement and so on. We can customize both hardware and software to make WiMER system more capable and helpful for your specific application.
